Thanks to everyone to voted in my little survey from last week. The results are as follows:
Basically there was a 60/40 split in favour of blogging when inspired rather than blogging every day regardless of quality levels.
Now I'm pretty sure that most of you can understand the concept of a 60/40 ratio without the benefit of a chart, but I included it for two reasons:
- I think that pictures make the blog look more interesting and diagrams make it look almost high-brow
- I've just discovered Google Charts and have been looking for an excuse to use one
Particular thanks to those people who not only (presumably) voted, but also dropped me an email as well with their considered thoughts.
One factor which was of course only obvious once someone had pointed it out to me was that regularity is at least as important as frequency. I certainly know during Blovember I was sometimes guilty of Routemaster-style blogging, i.e. nothing for days and then three entries came along at once.
So, following the feedback, I have come up with the Man Writes Blog Readers' Charter. I know the word “charter” is a bit more John Major than Not So New Labour, but hey, the mid-nineties will be retro cool sometime soon.
The Man Writes Blog Readers' Charter
- I will try to make sure there is at least one reasonably well-written and considered entry on the blog each week and that entry will be posted on a Monday morning. Just remember — Monday Is Man-Day
- During the rest of the working week I may well post shorter, more random entries for those of you in the “little and often” camp, but I won't be offended if the rest of you only visit once a week
- Any new entries will go up on the blog before 10am, so if there's nothing up by then, don't bother checking again until the next day
These are the three pillars of the Man Writes Blog charter. Like any charter, it is a declaration of intent, a standard against which performance will be measured, rather than a cast iron guarantee, but like a good cub scout I promise to do my best...
